Two of the most promising activities of the Heflin Homecoming Weekend are a Heflin history come to life presentation on Sunday afternoon and Music in the Park on Friday evening, Saturday and Saturday evenings at the Ross Street Park. The Heflin Homecoming Weekend will be Friday, May 28, Saturday, May 29 and Sunday, May 30. The Heflin Homecoming is sponsored by the City of Heflin, the Heflin Arts Council, the Alabama Department of Tourism and Alabama Power Company. The purpose of the fun-filled weekend is to celebrate the good life in Alabama's small towns and down-town areas.

The dramatic presentation, to be enacted at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 30 at the Casey Auditorium, was written by Heflin area writers. Local actors will tell Heflin's story from its earliest days in a very pleasant trip down memory lane with the help of pictures of Heflin through the years produced into a DVD by film-maker, Will Payne. Will is a graduate of Cleburne County High School. Cover design for the DVD was done by CCHS graduate, Andrew Payne. Copies of the pictorial history on DVD will be on sale at the Sunday presentation. Local writers and producers of this history come to life are Suzanne Payne, Beverly Casey, Lolly Payne, Sonja Urquhart, Kathy Harlan and Carol Wilmot. This event, produced locally, will certainly be one of the highlights of the homecoming weekend.

There is no admission charge.

Music in the Park will no doubt be one of the favorite homecoming weekend activities for guests and area residents of all ages. All music events will be held at Ross Park in front of the Cleburne County Courthouse. Beginning on Friday evening, May 28 Music in the Park will feature the following schedule of life music:

Friday: 6 to 7 p.m. Saxophone Music by Guest Performer, Tom Gassaway

Friday: 7 to 8 p.m. Chulafinnee Bluegrass Boys

Friday: 8 to 10 p.m. Jonathan East and Crossroad Band

Saturday: 10 a.m. Blast from the Past — Performing before and after the vintage parade.

Saturday 6 to 7 p.m. Music by Harry Case

Saturday 7 to 10 p.m. Music from the past by the Gary Harris Band, "PastTime."

Guests and locals are invited to come and bring lawn chairs and dancing shoes to enjoy the much loved music of the Heflin area.

Not trying to stick my nose in something that isn't none of my own (thankfully I don't live there) BUT where in Heflin could there be a park big enough to hold enough people to make this Music in the Park a success? My family, friends and I got together and came to Heflin because we always attended the Outdoor Jamboree. That was a great time, not only for Cleburne but a lot of the surrounding areas. Somebody dropped their candy when that was gone. It had to be a big lose for Cleburne County. I'm just saying.

This sounds like a great time to have an anti Anna rally. She has embarrassed our town enough. Its time to embarrass her.
