Why do we need commissioners?

I would like to ask the voters of this county a question? Can anyone tell me why we have commissioners?

In previous years they maintained county roads. Today you cannot reach one on the phone if you have a problem in your area.

Out in the county grass on sides of the roads is not mowed unless it is election time.

The money they receive for their district to use as they choose - what is it used for?

They meet one time a month. What do they do in those meetings? Voting, I know. But, do they have any input from the voters and if so, do they consider it?

We have a county engineer, so why do we have commissioners, since he calls the shots?

Cleburne County Tea Party:

Yes, you do Give money to Children in the Band and support Schools. Children are more important than a pot hole, which I am sure you just want to complain about. Yes, the 1% sales tax should have been passed. Ranburne was in desperate need for a School for those Children. I also hate more taxes, yet there are times we have no choice, we simply have to have these things to make a better future for our Children and ourselves. Come on out of the woodwork, it is election year!!!!

Good I'm glad you all at the county got a raise. We at the city have not had one in 2 years, but our county fees like dispatch keep going up and up.. I think 50 THOUSAND dollars a year to pay for that service is a little much since no one else in our county or surrounding ones pay that much for the service we get. Plus what's that charge on the dang phone bill for anyway?

I have worked for the county for a long time and we are short about 6 spots already. I make around 10.00 an hour so i am glad they give us raises it helps me feed my family.

If you want to fight over me making 10.00 then lets go

Not these folks in the commission. They have never seen a tax or fee they would not support. We pay enough taxes and fees. If 1993 revenue is all you have then you prioritize and cut out waste, people, salaries, raises and you don't give money for band music when a pot hole needs to be fixed. Salaries for commissioners should be capped below 1993 levels.

People are tired of this and are getting ready to revolt.

Let's elect only REAL conservatives. No more liberals pretending to be republicans.

We meet every 2nd Monday of each month at 4:00pm at the Commission Office at the courthouse.

We changed these times in 2002 to the later times so people could attend.

So far since 2002 when I took office we have had 87 meetings and I have not seen you at one of them. If you wish to complain it seems that you only complain at election time. You have not attened one meeting to discuss any problems.

This county has a good mixture of Commissioners Democrat and Republician since I have been honored to serve on the commission. We try very hard at every meeting to do the very best for our people that we serve.

Our road department still operates on 1993 revenue, try to run your household on that type revenue.

You only start these posts and accusations around election time, if you are not satisfied with county government then run yourself, democrat qualifying has began and republician starts feb 15.Throw your name in and see if you can do better.
