Ashland attorney Greg Varner has announced his candidacy for the Alabama State Senate, District 13 seat currently held by State Senator Kim Benefield.

Varner operates his own law firm in Ashland and represents the Clay County Commission.

"If the people of Senate District 13, entrust me with the stewardship of their representation, I will diligently seek to create jobs by empowering locally-owned, small businesses and farms. You do not have to be 'to big to fail' to matter to me. As I have fought in courthouses, I will take the fight to the State House. I will be the tribune and advocate for working people, small shops and family farms," he said.

Of Varner, Benefield said, "There is no other person within the district better suited than Greg to stand up for the values and convictions of the people of Senate District 13."

No, "God help us" if someone like Dial returns to run again. He's pitiful. Even Kim was a step up from him.

State Senator Kim Benefield in announcing that she will not be a candidate for re-election is quoted as saying,"Ashland Attorney Greg Varner is the only person in the district to stand up for the people in District 13. If this is true, and Greg is the only one really suited for the job, this is a reflection on the community...only one person qualified....God help us all....
