Northway finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds in a 64-44 win over Ramsay in the Class 5A Northeast Regional girls semifinals at Jacksonville State. She shot an efficient 8-of-9 from the field, making both tries from behind the 3-point arc. She also sank a pair of foul shots.
Brewer also got solid performances from fellow seniors Savana Flack (12 points, six rebounds), Cheyenne McLemore (11 points, four rebounds, three assists) and Emily Oden (nine points, four assists).
None of the four knows what it's like to lose a regional game, and they dominated this one from the start, bolting out to a 23-6 lead in the first quarter.
"Coach (Ricky) Allen trains us to take care of business, and that's our expectation -- to come out and take care of business," Northway said.
Added Flack, a Faulkner signee: "It's a pride thing. If we don't do as well as we expect, we're frustrated."
Brewer (27-7) will face Arab on Friday at 12:20 p.m. Arab upset Brewer for the 5A, Area 12 title, which marked the first time since 2006 the Patriots didn't win their area crown.
But for now, Brewer is thinking about a fourth straight regional title.
"It's been our dream for me and Savana since we were in junior high to go to state for four years in a row," Northway said. "That would be awesome."
