Prep roundup: Garrick pitches Weaver to win over Ohatchee in opener

Jake Garrick pitched five innings of no-hit baseball to lead Weaver to a season-opening 8-2 road win over Ohatchee on Tuesday night.

Garrick struck out eight and went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI.

Chris Kent finished 1-for-2 with a double and three RBIs. Johnny Jones, Walker Bryant and T.J. Thompson all doubled for the Bearcats.

Jaylan Jenkins hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the seventh for Ohatchee (0-3).

Weaver (1-0) travels to Pleasant Valley on Saturday.

Oxford 6-12, Piedmont 0-8: The Yellow Jackets opened their season with a sweep of Piedmont.

In Game 1, Jacob Cook picked up the win, allowing one hit over seven innings. He struck out six. Dillen Miller was the winner in Game 2, allowing three hits over five innings.

At the plate, Drake Champion was 3-for-4 in quality at-bats in both games. Cook was 3-for-3 in Game 1, and Austin Jones was 3-for-4 in Game 2.

Oxford (2-0) hosts Brooks on Friday at 4 p.m.

Etowah County 12, Jacksonville 2: Chase Marbut doubled twice, and Lavontae LeCount doubled once for Jacksonville. Payton Sims was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Etowah County scored three in the first inning, four in the second and five in the sixth.

Softball

Wellborn 4, Faith Christian 2:
Ragan Thacker finished with two hits, as Faith Christian lost at home in its season opener.

Presley Whitten struck out four for the Lions.

Faith Christian (0-1) plays in the Ohatchee Invitational on Saturday.

Girls soccer

Jacksonville 4, Sacred Heart 0:
The Lady Golden Eagles got goals from four different players in a home win over the Cardinals.

Alexa Manuel, Jordan Terry, Elizabeth Poe and Becca Ulrich had a goal apiece for Jacksonville.

Terry added two assists, and Poe and Ashton Wells each had one.

Matti Lowery picked up the win in goal.

Jacksonville (2-0) travels to Westbrook Christian on Tuesday.

Donoho 1, Talladega 0: Leslie Williams scored the only goal of the match off an assist from Shelley Phillips, as the Lady Falcons won their season opener.

Peyton Suco finished with five saves.

Donoho plays in the Lakeshore Shootout in Birmingham the weekend.

Boys Soccer

Talladega 11, Donoho 1:
Donoho’s Mitchell Baker scored a goal off an assist from Hinton Owsley in the Falcons’ season opening loss to Talladega.
