There’s something about area tournament time and Class 2A, Area 10 basketball.

Last year, No. 4 Woodland beat No. 1 Pleasant Valley and No. 3 Ranburne defeated No. 2 Ohatchee in the semifinal round. Pleasant Valley isn’t this year’s area regular-season champion. That honor belongs to Ranburne, undefeated in area play.

Wins have been hard to come by for Pleasant Valley this season but it’s area tournament time, and the Raiders announced Monday night they don’t intend to go away quietly. In the final regular-season game for each team, Pleasant Valley got double-digit scoring from four players and defeated Wellborn, the No. 2 seed in Area 10 this time, 55-48 at Wellborn. It was Pleasant Valley’s fourth win of the season overall and second in area competition. Wellborn fell to 5-3 in area games.

The Raiders led 39-38 after three quarters and pulled away in the fourth. Trey Phillips paced Pleasant Valley with 16 points. Lucas Ford scored 13 points. Hunter Carr and Dustin Andrews netted 11 points apiece and Andrews grabbed 10 rebounds.

Wellborn’s Devron Taylor led all scorers with 18 points. Corri Tignor had 12 points and 13 rebounds for the Panthers. Freshman Blake Hanson drilled two 3-pointers and finished with six points.

Pleasant Valley (4-20) will meet Ohatchee today at Woodland in the Area 10 opener. The winner tangles with Ranburne at Ranburne on Friday in the late game. Wellborn (6-13) will play at Ranburne Friday at 6 p.m. against No. 3 Woodland.

White Plains 66, Faith Christian 50: Jerod Guthrie scored 15 points to pace White Plains, including 13 in the second half.

For Faith Christian, Jordan Griswould had 10 points.

Spring Garden 67, Sand Rock 60, OT: Jay Prater made all six foul shots he attempted in overtime to pace Spring Garden (12-12). The two teams were tied 55-55 at the end of regulation.

Will Westbrook led the winners with 24 points and 12 rebounds, while Prater scored 21 points, hitting five 3-pointers.

Jacob Black scored nine points.
