Folks around here might know because Donoho graduate Tyler Siskey recently received such recognition for playing that off-field role on Alabama’s staff.
FootballScoop.com recently named Siskey its director of player personnel of the year. Officially listed as assistant director of player personnel, Siskey beat two other finalists -- South Carolina’s Robbie Liles and Ohio State’s Mark Pantoni.
The role Siskey plays is similar to the one he played as Ole Miss’ director of recruiting development in 2012. At Ole Miss, he was the behind-the-scenes strategy man for recruiting and helped the Rebels land five five-star recruits in the 2013 class.
Alabama’s 25 commitments for 2014 top team rankings complied by various recruiting sites, and Siskey’s presence in Tuscaloosa might have played some role in the Tide land its next starting quarterback. He was offensive coordinator at St. Paul’s Episcopal in Mobile when Florida State transfer Jacob Coker was a freshman.
A winnable starting job probably swayed Coker. Recently departed Tide quarterback AJ McCarron, St. Paul’s starter before Coker, might have put in a word or two, and FSU coach Jimbo Fisher’s history as a former Nick Saban assistant likely didn’t hurt.
The bet here, though, is that Saban is pretty happy with his assistant director of player of personnel.
