As someone who lives in the area of the Jacksonville High School, I can say from personal experience that traffic at the proposed site for a new elementary school on George Douthit Drive is already terrible. At least one ambulance or fire truck passes my house every day, and it makes no sense to build another school on a thoroughfare to a hospital.

When school lets out at the high school, I might as well forget trying to get out of my driveway. Furthermore, has no one mentioned the fact that there is an assisted-living facility on James Hopkins Road? Combine that with the traffic from Wal-Mart on George Douthit Drive and one can see how it is already a highly congested area.

I would like to see data that states the majority of the school-age population no longer lives on the Kitty Stone Elementary side of town, because I question that. I urge the Board of Education to reconsider moving the elementary school to this proposed site and instead maintain the existing facility at Kitty Stone Elementary.
