Auburn basketball coach Tony Barbee should pay part of his salary to Gus Malzahn. If Malzahn hadn’t diverted attention from Auburn faithful, somebody on campus might actually care about how bad Barbee’s hoops team is.

As it is, because of Malzahn, how many people at Auburn know they still have a basketball team, much less one that can’t win?

They might be mad that Barbee has lost at least 20 games in two of the past three seasons … if anybody cared.

It might bug someone that before Barbee, Auburn had lost as many as 20 games in a year only once … if anybody cared.

They might not like that last year, Barbee’s team set a school record with 23 losses … if anybody cared.

It might bother someone that Auburn lost Wednesday night 78-67 to Tennessee for the school’s 13th straight loss to an SEC team … if anybody cared.

It might be worth pointing out Auburn hasn’t made the NCAA tournament since 2003, which was three coaches ago … if anybody cared.

Of course, Barbee can celebrate this little tidbit – as bad as his team was last year, it beat Alabama. That might bother somebody in Tuscaloosa … if anybody cared on Alabama’s campus.
