Prep basketball roundup: Anniston girls whip Keith

MONTGOMERY -- Quanetria Bolton had 25 points as Anniston High's girls basketball team beat Keith 53-23 in the Dwight Madison Roundball Classic on Thursday. She added 12 rebounds and three blocks.

Ki-Yana Bullock added eight points, 11 rebounds and a pair of steals. Marticia Jackson and Rakeema Najiy each scored seven.

Anniston (10-3) will play Carver-Montgomery today at 5:30 p.m.

Alexandria 52, LaFayette 32: Playing in the Handley Christmas tournament, Timberlyn Shurbutt had 22 points, five rebounds and four steals for Alexandria. Kaitlyn Brown added 19 points, six rebounds and five assists.

Alexandria (6-6) will play Handley today at 6 p.m.

Woodland 71, Tharptown 44: In the late game of Thursday’s opening day, Woodland jumped out to a 43-19 halftime lead and cruised past Tharptown in the Northwest Alabama Christmas tournament at Rogersville. Leah Strain led the Bobcats with 19 points. She scored 13 in the first half. The thirteenth came at the foul line and pushed the senior’s career total to exactly 4,000 points. Jaide Walker finished with 13 points for Woodland and Shanna Strain had 12 points. The Bobcats (12-0) continue tournament play at 3 p.m. Friday against Red Bay.

Boys

Jeff Davis 62, Anniston 47:
Qua Frazier scored 12 points and grabbed five rebounds as the Bulldogs fell short in the Dwight Madison Roundball Classic.

Quinterious Croft added 11 points for Anniston (8-4).

Hayesville (N.C.) 61, Piedmont 57: In the Battle of the States tournament at Hiawassee, Ga., Piedmont fell behind 14-2 in the first quarter and never overcame the early deficit. The Bulldogs got as close a three points late and had the ball but couldn’t get closer.

Denard Spears led Piedmont with 22 points and added five steals and two assists. Dreek Thompson scored 10 points and had four rebounds. Taylor Hayes had nine points. Ty Sparks and Caleb Adams grabbed four rebounds each.

Piedmont will play Murphy (N.C.) today at 10:30 a.m. in a consolation bracket game.
