It should be noted that I am well past 80 in years and more like 90 physically and have had lots of time to smell the roses. I walk with the aid of a cane.

Recently it was necessary for me to go to the Calhoun County Courthouse on some business. After setting off every alarm in the metal detectors with my metal joints, etc., I proceeded down the hall. After a few feet I encountered a lady who most clearly was someone’s secretary. She asked where I was trying to go. I told her and she proceeded to bring me into contact with the secretary of that individual.

I was treated with so much kindness that I was overwhelmed with gratefulness.

Some of us feel that some are called into service: ministers, teachers, nurses and some doctors. My experience reminded me that many others are also called into service by performing their task with love, caring and compassion.

Our community is truly blessed in having such loving and caring public servants. They are a blessing to us all and themselves are blessed in living the lives of their calling.

Amen and amen.
