The Jacksonville Christian Academy sophomore started playing basketball when she was 5, but picked up her first set of drum sticks at age 4.
Without lessons or instructions, Cupp taught herself how to play drums while her dad played along on guitar. Now Cupp is learning to play guitar and bass as well.
Away from music, Cupp is a two-year starter for JCA on the basketball court. She also plays softball, but prefers basketball. Cupp has attended JCA since kindergarten.
Although graduation is still more than two years away, Cupp has an idea of what field she wants to pursue after graduating, thinking either meteorology or being a pediatrician.
Recently, Cupp took a few minutes away from a gameday shootaround to sit down with Anniston Star sports writer Brandon Miller and answer 10 questions:
Question: Was basketball the first sport that you fell in love with?
Answer: Yes, I really loved it as soon as I picked up a basketball. I started when I was about 5, playing in a church league. After about four years I started playing here.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about JCA?
A: Everybody treats you right, loves you and treats you with respect. There’s a great Christian influence that’s just amazing. You can go to the teachers and talk to them about anything, and they’ll help with however they can. I just love that.
Q: What’s the perfect summer hobby?
A: I love doing water sports, like water skiing and stuff like that. I like to go to Logan Martin Lake and do all that out there.
Q: How’s it been playing under first-year coach Brooke Lee?
A: It’s been really fun. They make it really fun, and we always have a good time. We’ve been enjoying the season.
Q: Is there a reason you wear No. 4?
A: My uncle wore this number when he was at JCA, and when I was young, he used to always tell me when I got older I could wear it, too. I was always waiting for that.
Q: What’s the best part about this basketball team?
A: It’s having that feeling after making a good play and having all of our teammates saying good job. I love how we are all supportive of each other. That’s one thing we always look for.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about Christmas?
A: Getting to spend time with my family. Just about everybody that we spend time with is already here, so we get to hang out with them a lot during the holidays.
Q: If you were to open a business, what kind of business would you open?
A: Since I’d like to be a pediatrician, probably a doctor’s office or something like that.
Q: Do you read the newspaper?
A: Sometimes. When I do I like to read the sports section, especially about basketball.
Q: Do you love winning or hate losing more?
A: Hate losing, definitely. It makes me kind of mad sometimes because I think about all the things we could have done better.
