Prep basketball roundup: Morales makes shot at buzzer to lift Thunder

JACKSONVILLE — Senior Tyler Morales netted a long 3-point basket just before the final buzzer to send Jacksonville Christian to a 51-50 win over Alabama School for the Deaf on Thursday. Morales, who started JCA’s scoring with a 3-pointer in the first quarter, finished with eight points.

The Thunder trailed 20-11 after the first quarter, led 29-24 at halftime then trailed again 39-37 when the third quarter ended. JCA’s woeful fourth quarter at the free-throw line helped the Silent Warriors hold the lead until the end.

Will Parris had a double-double to lead the Thunder with 17 rebounds and 12 points. Dakota Crook scored 14 points. Daylon Brackett had 12 points, including a pair of treys in the fourth.

Jacksonville Christian (3-0) travels to Cedar Bluff tonight.

Talladega 67, Anniston 56: Qua Frazier scored 18 points for Anniston but it wasn’t enough as the Bulldogs fell to Talladega, losing for the first time this season.

Anniston had three others in double figures, including Quinterious Croft, who added 13 points. Quint Dobbins chipped in with 12 and Quin Jackson had 11.

Richard Williams led the Tigers with 15 points. Josh Madden and D’Angelo Seals each finished with 13 points.

Jacksonville Christian 50, Alabama School for the Deaf 43:
Sarah Crook recorded a double-double in the Thunder’s win over ASD, finishing with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

Joeley Cupp led JCA with 11 points and Elysabeth Morales chipped in with eight points and 11 rebounds.

JCA (2-1) travels to Cedar Bluff today.
