The company’s knives are usually sold only through big-name retailers such as Cabela's, Bass Pro Shop and Academy Sports and Outdoors. Beginning Friday, Nov. 22,, the cutlery will be sold at a discount from the company’s plant on Alexandria-Jacksonville Highway, where the family-owned business will also host tours of the facility.
“We just try to give back to the community,” said Ken Griffey, a co-owner of the company. “It gives everybody a chance to buy a special price something that is made right here in Alabama.”
Bear and Sons primarily sells three types of knives: military tactical, hunting and pocket knives. Typically they sell for between $18 and $400, but this weekend the knives will go for between $5 and $200, Griffey said.
According to the company website, the event is the 17th Annual Community Appreciation sale. Last year the event attracted 3,000 customers, who had 20,000 knives to pick from.
Throughout the sale the company will allow visitors to tour the 41,000 square-foot facility and see how knives are made.
