Listening to Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives, I think the federal government with its faults is the real internal enemy facing this great nation. These lawmakers have demonstrated an obsessive stubbornness and contempt for the Affordable Care Act. They know nothing but to resist and repeal the ACA, actions they view as virtuous deeds.

Bear in mind that Republican lawmakers made a raid on the government through the shutdown with ACA in mind. Even professed Christian governors, such as Alabama’s Robert Bentley, show strong opposition for Medicaid expansion. Unbiased studies show that 300,000 residents in our state would benefit from this health-care plan in the long run.

Conservative Republicans were once staunch supporters of government intervention in social and moral issues. These conservatives would, and still do, cite biblical references from Paul’s letter in Romans 13 and Peter’s first letter where the Apostles admonished Christians to submit and obey the government, as long as it did not conflict with the higher duty.

Both Paul and Peter, who were Roman citizens, were executed for their religious beliefs by their government, which was known for corruption, oppression, extortion, intolerance and cruelty. Our government is much better than that of the Romans, because no one will be executed for his beliefs or positions about any health-care plan.
