However, this morning reporter Lara Logan and 60 Minutes apologized after learning that their top source for the televised report was no longer credible.
The New York Times wrote today, "The lengthy apology on Friday, highly unusual for any news organization, was all the more notable because it came from “60 Minutes,” one of the most esteemed newsmagazines on American television.
“'The most important thing to every person at ’60 Minutes’ is the truth, and today the truth is that we made a mistake,' Ms. Logan said."
It's a valuable lesson for media organizations -- get it right, and when you don't, say so quickly. Transparency is paramount. (The original 60 Minutes report is below.)
