Titled “The Perfectionist,” don’t expect the report to reveal much that you don’t know already, even though CBS is promoting the piece as showing a side of Saban fans rarely see.
You’ll see as much as Saban wants you to see, and that won’t be all that different from what you’ve seen every time a national news organization travels to Tuscaloosa in hopes of revealing the inside story on the Tide coach.
It likely will be entertaining and, for the rest of the country, informative. The lead reporter is Armen Keteyian, and he’s good. No doubt the piece will be as well.
Robert Witt, the Alabama chancellor, is interviewed and according to a CBS news release, he calls Saban the “best financial investment” the school ever made.
That’s debatable. In 1957, Alabama hired Bear Bryant as head coach and athletics director for a starting salary of $17,500 a year, which was a bit of a bump from the $15,000 he received at Texas A&M.
Still, Witt’s point is made -- it’s clear that hiring Saban not only transformed Alabama’s athletics department but maybe changed the school as well.
But you already knew that, did you?
