Saturday is the final day of a weeklong cleanup effort in Hobson City. Town officials hope residents and volunteers will spend a portion of the day mowing lawns and collecting garbage.

Letters were mailed to residents last week asking them to clean up their property, Mayor Alberta McCrory said.

“People have just responded greatly,” she said.

After several days of work, McCrory said, several yards along Martin Luther King Boulevard have been mowed and junk removed. She hopes for a large turnout Saturday, when the work is expected to continue throughout town.

Residents can begin Saturday placing large items curbside for garbage pickup. Those items will be picked up the following Saturday, McCrory said.

Any elderly or disabled residents with large items to throw away can call Town Hall at 256-831-4940, McCrory said.

“We’ll make arrangements to get volunteers to come and pick it up,” she said.
