Ohatchee defeated the Bulldogs in an early-season match but Strott isn’t conceding Saturday’s match to the Indians.
“We’ve improved so much since the beginning of the year,” Strott said. “I hope we bring our ‘A’ game and make that a good match. I just think it’s so evenly matched this year compared to years past.”
Piedmont picked up an impressive Class 3A, Area 10 win at White Plains Thursday. The Bulldogs downed the Wildcats 21-25, 25-18, 16-25, 25-20, 15-12. Carlie Flowers and Riesha Thompson were the big guns for Piedmont’s attack. Flowers had 18 kills and Thompson had 13. Torre Roberts added seven kills. Setter Mallory Roberts had 32 assists. Strott said three assists by Bre Green and two by Ashlynne Rivers helped keep Piedmont’s offense on track when passes didn’t reach Roberts. Green had a dozen digs and Keshauna Jones recorded seven. Jaylen Major, Torre Roberts, Mallory Roberts and Thompson each had two aces.
At Oxford Monday, the Bulldogs fell to Saks (14-25, 25-12, 17-15) and Oxford (25-17, 26-24). Against Saks, Flowers had seven kills. Mallory Roberts had seven assists, one block and one kill. Green made five digs. In the Oxford match, Thompson had four kills. Mallory Roberts recorded five assists and two aces. Green had 12 digs and Rivers had eight digs.
Piedmont was to host Ranburne Tuesday night and will entertain Saks in an Area 10 match Thursday in advance of the county tournament.
