The annual event has become a tradition for high school marching bands in the area. It gives students and directors the chance to glimpse their peers’ performance before the marching bands’ competitive season begins, said Jared Holland, Weaver High school’s band director.
“They get to get all the jitters and all of the bugs out,” Holland said.
The event, which is open to the public, will be at Piedmont High School from 5 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Admission will be $5.
The event will also serve as a fundraiser for the high school students and proceeds will go to fund the Calhoun County Honor Band.
For several years the exhibition was held at Jacksonville State University, but that changed about two years ago when Oxford began hosting the event. It changed again this year when the Calhoun County Band Directors Association decided to allow Piedmont High School to host the event for the first time.
“It’s probably going to start rotating among schools,” said Holland, who was president of the association last year.
The event will also serve as a fundraiser with proceeds going to the Calhoun County Honor Band.
