My grandson, John Dillon Salers, has ADHD and is on medication and has been all his life. He’s never been very bright on account of the ADHD.

One week in 2012 he went without his medications for some reason and killed my granddaughter, Katelynn Arnold. I miss her every day. She was only 8; he was only 14. For some reason, I feel confused that in his right mind he would do such a thing.

The district attorney in St. Clair County has said my grandson will be tried as an adult. He’s only 14, and I don’t think he could comprehend the consequences of his actions.

He needs to be sent to Taylor Hardin Secure Medical Facility to be evaluated before the district attorney makes any decision in this case. I think there’s more to this story than is being told. The truth is what the law and court system are all about, not a district attorney’s conviction record.

If he’s guilty, he’s guilty. But is his mind right? I love all my grandchildren. And I miss Katelynn so much. I know she is wearing her crown of glory.

John H. Arnold
