Anniston police were investigating a burglary today that left a 47-year-old man with cuts on his face and arms Saturday.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said the victim was asleep in his home on the 3800 block of George Street around 11:15 a.m. Saturday. The victim told police two men he did not know kicked open his front door and attacked him, George said.

The captain said one suspect was armed with a club and the other man had a box cutter. The victim fought back, George said, and the suspects fled the home.

The victim suffered cuts on his cheeks, bumps on his head and several cuts on his arms, with one that was 7 inches long, George said. The victim was treated at his home by Anniston Emergency Medical Services, the captain said, but refused to go to the hospital. The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.

George said the burglars did not take anything from the home and the incident was still under investigation today.

Any suspect will likely face charges of first-degree burglary, a felony.
