Prep volleyball roundup: Saks opens with win over Piedmont

Saks High opened the volleyball season with a 25-20, 25-12, 26-24 win over Piedmont on Thursday night as Jordan Briskey had eight kills and nine digs.

Tiffany Springer had 15 digs for the winners, while Jayelyn Wilson contributed 19 assists. Baylee Snider added five blocks.

Saks will host a nine-team tournament Saturday.

Boaz 2, Oxford 0; Southside 2, Oxford 1 – At Southside, Oxford dropped its first two matches of the season, falling to Boaz 25-18, 25-12 and Southside 20-25, 25-15, 15-6.

Morgan Whaley dished out 16 assists and had nine digs. Katey Skinner added 15 assists and six digs, and Breanna Nolan finished with seven kills and 11 digs.

Oxford (0-2) travels to Saks on Tuesday to play Saks and Jacksonville.

Spring Garden 2, White Plains 0; White Plains 2, Pleasant Valley 1 – At White Plains, the Lady Wildcats split a tri-match against Spring Garden and Pleasant Valley.

In the opener, the Panthers knocked off the Wildcats 25-11, 25-17. White Plains bounced back in its second match, knocking off the Raiders 19-25, 25-20, 16-14.

Anne Katherine Dothard led the Wildcats with nine kills and two blocks. Sophie Taylor added eight kills, six digs and two aces. Rachel Snider dished out 28 assists and added three kills and three blocks. Haley Helms recorded 19 digs.

White Plains (1-1) travels to Pleasant Valley on Tuesday for a tri-match against the Raiders and Victory Christian.

Alexandria 2, Jacksonville Christian 0; Alexandria 2, Sacred Heart 0; Sacred Heart 2, Jacksonville Christian 0 – In the opener, Alexandria won 25-12, 25-12 as Taylor Ellison had eight aces, while Heather Young and Kaitlyn Brown each had five kills. Kaylee Golden contributed 16 assists.

In the second match, Alexandria scored a 25-11, 25-15 win as Golden led with 18 assists, while Madison Shanks added 10 digs. Brown had eight kills.

Alexandria will play in a tournament at Briarwood Christian today and Saturday.

Sacred Heart scored a 25-7, 25-22 win over Jacksonville Christian. Kristen Rothwell led Sacred Heart with 10 kills combined in its two matches. Zainab Sanusi and Anna Kerper added three kills. Kerper also had 10 assists, and Haley Shaw finished with five aces.

Sacred Heart (1-1) will play in the Saks tournament Saturday.
