An Anniston man was arrested early this morning after hitting his roommate multiple times in the back with an aluminum baseball bat, according to a police report.

Oscar “Black” Woodard, 44, and his roommate, age 40, got into an argument at their house on the 300 block of East 13th Street around 3 a.m. this morning, according to Anniston police Capt. Allen George.

During the fight, Woodard picked up an aluminum bat and struck the victim multiple times in the back with it, George said.

The captain said that when police arrived they found the victim lying on the sidewalk outside the house. The report did not mention how the victim got outside, George said.

The victim suffered from bruising on three areas of his back but told police he did not require medical attention, George said.

Woodard was found to have two outstanding warrants — one for failure to appear and another for contempt of court — from the Anniston Police Department at the time of his arrest, according to George.

Woodard was in the Calhoun County Jail this morning on second-degree domestic violence felony charges.

Woodard’s bond is set at $2,500. No court date had been set as of today.
