They had a word for whistleblowers in the Old Testament: They called them “prophets.” Moses, Amos and Jonah are some of those who risked everything to blow the whistle on greed, hatred and corruption.

In the New Testament, Jesus blew the whistle on anything that kept people from loving others. Daniel Manning, Julian Assange, Bradley Manning, Edward Snowden and others are modern-day prophets to me. They have risked everything to shine the light on what some would keep secret. Their “good book” is our Constitution, which many Southern Baptists claim is based on Christian principles.

Their actions beg the questions: “Who are our modern-day Pharisees?” “Whose is the empire?” And, ultimately:  “Who is now called upon to act?”
