A woman told police Tuesday her estranged husband kicked down her door and refused to let her call police.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said the 33-year-old woman called police Tuesday when she got into an argument with her husband, whom she is divorcing. George said the husband had moved out of their home on the 5500 block of Cash Street, but returned to discuss picking up the rest of his property. The discussion led to an argument, George said, and the victim went inside the home and locked the doors.

According to George, the suspect kicked in the back door and threw the woman’s phone against a wall when she tried to call police.

The captain said the man grabbed the victim by her shirt and pushed her down.

A neighbor came to the victim’s aid and tried to restrain the man, but the husband fled before police arrived.

George said the woman did not report any injuries or receive medical treatment.

Police were investigating the incident today], George said.

Any suspect could be charged with felony second-degree domestic violence and misdemeanor interfering with a domestic violence emergency call.
