Two chances for canning lessons

Want to learn the lost art of canning? Then July is your month.

Two upcoming classes will show participants everything they need to know about preserving fruits and vegetables.

The Jacksonville Farmers Market’s third annual Art of Canning workshop is this Saturday from 8-10 a.m. in the pocket park behind Roma’s on the Square. The workshop will cover preparation and proper cleaning of jars, all the way up to water bath and cooling. For more information, email jacksonvillefarmersmarket@gmail.com.

Then on July 17, the Alabama Cooperative Extension Office will host a free food preservation class featuring a pressure-canning demonstration from 1-4 p.m. at its Noble Street office. Call Patti West at 334-844-8090 for more information.

3 Style celebrates with free pizza

On Thursday, 3 Style Pizza in Alexandria will celebrate its one-year anniversary with free pizza. The first 100 people through the door between 5-8 p.m. will get a slice of what the restaurant is calling “Calhoun County’s largest pizza ever.”

The celebration will also include a bouncy house, face painting and dough throwing for the kids. Plus, kids 12 and under eat free and every extra-large pizza comes with a free appetizer.

For more information, call 256-847-3330.
