WEDNESDAY’S LIST ... of beans ’n greens ’n other things:

I AM sitting in a booth at Jack’s on Quintard. I am contented. I’ve been to meet the Peach Man at Regions in Oxford and the blonde is at home in bed. Which means I am now into a very nice grease fix (gravy-’n-egg platter) without verbal harassment ... as in “That’s gonna kill you.”

The coffee guys are gathering at a front table when I hear:

“There he comes now.”

A big man at the table gets up, heads for the parking lot. A woman gets out of a car and pops the trunk. The big man reaches inside, lifts out a walker, and he and woman move to the passenger’s side.

They help another big man out of the car. He moves to the walker and the three come inside, sit down at the coffee table. On their way in, I another man stands and says:

“I guess I better get up and give him his chair.”

It is now 7:07 a.m. and it occurs to me that I have just seen two things at Jack’s.

1. I have seen friendship.

2. I have seen love.

The big guy who helped his buddy and the woman and the man who gave up his chair is the friendship.

And any woman who will get up at the crack of dawn, get dressed, and haul her man (I’m assuming it was husband and wife) to Jack’s to have breakfast with his buddies is the love.

I left there feeling really good ... and the gravy-’n-egg platter had nothing to do with it.

I HAVE just finished listening to Burl Ives sing “Green Grow The Lilacs.”

According to the late Mr. Ives it is from that, back in frontier days, Mexicans in the Southwest began calling the white man  “Gringos.”

Get it ... Green Grows. And I’ll betcha you didn’t know that.

A LADY called a few days back wondering where all the hummingbirds are this year.

“I have hummingbird feeders out and I haven’t seen a single one,” she said.

Well, neither have I.

I don’t have any feeders, but there are several blooming plants hanging just outside my “barn” and they always have hummers flitting about.

Zilch this year. Anybody have the answer  ... or is it that the Chief Hummer has declared my back yard off limits? If you know the answer(s) ... let me know, too.

CHILD SUPPORT: A mother’s left hip.

I’m not sure where I read that one, but two things:

1. I like it a lot.

2. Betcha there are a lot of divorced guys out there who would love it if that is all there is to child support. I do know a little about child support, not by divorce but by marriage to the same lady for a bunch of good years.

Which gets me to ...

IT’S PERSONAL, but Friday is the blonde’s birthday and she’s mine ... and still a “stopper” after all these years. Happy Birthday, Dear Heart.

BIRTHDAYS: June 30 – Carrie Underwood and Jimmy Busby (twins); July 7 – Destiney Gaddy; July 8 – Carter Picton; July 10 – Yvonne Hurston.

I RECENTLY mentioned that Wayne Reaves plans to build a new (and much larger) Jack’s at Lenlock. I guess that’s true ’cause Wayne hasn’t called to let me know that I have no idea what I’m talking about.

Well, there IS a new Jack’s just up the road in Jacksonville. I knew that, but my Jack’s business goes mostly to Quintard.

And there you have it, news you really can use.
