Jacksonville will host Masters Games this year

Now is the time for senior citizens to register for Master Games, according to senior center director Wendy Bussey. Jacksonville has been chosen as the host city for the games on July 30. Registration deadline is July 15.

Seniors who place first, second or third at these district games can compete at the state level in Valley Oct. 7-10.

Applications are available at the senior center from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. daily. Participants aren’t required to be members of the senior center to compete. Anyone from the age of 50 and up is eligible. The fee is $10.

Games will include domino singles, shuffleboard, basketball free throw, softball throw, Nerf/Frisbee,, line dancing, Checkers and Rook.

Seniors can also register for the 5K run/walk, billiards, bowling, golf, horseshoes, swimming and/or tennis at the state games.

Table tennis competition will be held at Anniston Army Depot on Aug. 6.
