Capt. A.J. Benefield, interim Heflin police chief, said officers Danny Turner and Scott Winslett arrested Jeffrey Lamar Ramsey, 36, and Ashley Danielle Andrew, 27, both of Birmingham, after discovering 11.5 pounds of marijuana in the vehicle they were driving.
The officers were parked near Interstate 20’s exit 199 and pulled the car over a little after 1 a.m. because its tag light was out and it appeared to have no license plate, Benefield said.
When the officers approached the car, Turner noticed some marijuana debris and the smell of marijuana in the car. He asked to search the car and the occupants gave permission, Benefield said. Officers found the drugs in the trunk of the car, he said
The two were being held in Cleburne County Jail Friday with $500,000 bond, Benefield said.
