Oxford High School’s new principal will be selected at a special called school board meeting today.

“The Oxford City School system has enjoyed an excellent reputation throughout the years, and we have a lot of interest from a wide geographic area,” said Roy Bennett, student services coordinator for Oxford Schools.

The school’s former principal, Trey Holladay, was hired May 22 as superintendent of Athens City Schools.

The five final applicants being considered for the position are Todd Smith, assistant principal at Clay Chalkville Middle School; Jay Williams, assistant principal at Gaston School; Don Burchfield, principal at Woodland High School; Jason Yohn, principal at Smith Station High School; and Chris Cox, principal at Pinedale Elementary School.

Another opening at Oxford High occurred after the Cleburne County Board of Education on June 3 hired the school’s assistant principal, Valrie Bain, as principal of Cleburne High.

Bain, who had worked for Oxford City Schools since 1991, will begin her job at Cleburne High July 1.

“I’m sure as quick as we get one done, we’ll be working to get the next one as well,” Bennett said.

Today’s school board meeting will take place at 5 p.m. at the board conference room at Oxford City School’s district office.
