Police today were investigating the parents of a 5-year-old Anniston boy who, according to tests performed last week, was exposed to cocaine and methamphetamine.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks said the Department of Human Resources notified officers on May 31 about a family under investigation for drug use. Sparks said when police arrived at the home on the 2100 block of Woodland Avenue the family was uncooperative and refused to open the door. When a man and woman finally stepped outside, Sparks said, DHR immediately took custody of the 5-year-old boy in the home. A drug test last week determined the boy was exposed to meth and cocaine, the sergeant said.

Sparks said the boy was in custody of DHR today and police were still investigating the parents.

The parents could face charges of felony chemical endangerment of a child, Sparks said.
