A 19-year-old man was charged Saturday with robbing an Anniston Dollar General earlier this month.

Nigel Traevon Dreuitt, of Anniston, was charged with first-degree robbery, a felony, according to a police report.

Anniston police Capt. Allen George said Dreuitt and a female suspect went into the Dollar General on Noble Street on May 14. Dreuitt and the woman attempted to steal laundry detergent, flea treatment and car cleaning supplies from the store, George said.

Dreuitt and the woman were confronted by a Dollar General employee and the woman returned the items before leaving the store, the captain said. George said the employee believed the suspects were hiding more items and followed them into the parking lot.

While in the parking lot, Dreuitt almost backed into the employee with his 2008 Chevrolet Impala, George said.

George said Dreuitt told the employee “you better get back inside because you’re lucky I haven’t shot you yet,” and shoved the worker. The employee was not injured during the altercation, George said.

Dreuitt and the woman fled before police arrived, George said. An investigation led to Dreuitt’s arrest on Saturday. Police were still searching for the other suspect, George said today.

Dreuitt was released on a $25,000 bond from the Anniston City Jail on Saturday. A court appearance is scheduled for June 17.
