Lyons received a Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete award. He is one of 94 men's tennis players nationally to receive the honor. Players are nominated by each school's head coach, and an athlete must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and be at least a junior in academic status.
Lyons is a pre-health major and appeared in more than 50 singles matches and more than 45 doubles matches during his four-year career at Spring Hill.
Since the award was introduced in 1979, a total of 157 Spring Hill student-athletes have received Scholar Athlete recognition from the NAIA.
