Last month, little Thompson Wagoner of Jacksonville was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma (eye cancer). This month, he and his parents will start to fight back. The Junior League of Anniston-Calhoun Inc. is hosting “Party for a Cause” to show the Wagoners that this community is behind them all the way.

Thompson’s mom, Missy Almaroad Wagoner, is a long-time member of JLAC, and members of the organization knew immediately that they wanted to do something to help the family as they begin their fight against cancer. After a bit of brainstorming, the ladies of JLAC came up with a great way to raise money: a one-stop shopping event featuring everything from lipstick to jewelry to clothing to kitchenware.

Monday, May 13 — that’s tomorrow! — from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Christian Life Center of Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Anniston you can shop from a variety of vendors to help raise money for medical and travel expenses for the Wagoner family while they are at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Memphis for Thompson’s chemotherapy treatments.

More than 15 independent consultants and local shops have graciously agreed to donate a portion of their sales to the Thompson Wagoner fund. Among the vendors are Thirty-One Gifts (Mandy Edwards), Initial Outfitters (Katie Edwards), Premier Designs (Amy Collison), Pampered Chef (Lori Blackmon), Kelly’s Kids (Megan Brown), Mary Kay (Amanda Martin), Scentsy (Carrie Fritts), Swank Boutique (Amy Daley), Avon (Crystal Langston), Origami Owl (Bethany Harper), Body by Vi (Cami Prince), Sweet Peas (Valerie Winfrey), Princess House (Julie Bailey) and Lia Sophia (Emily White).

There will also be a raffle at 7:30 p.m. for prizes, including two half-hour mini sessions from Photography by Abbey, a Vera Bradley package from The Willow Tree, a style package from Stella and Dot and two sessions with an 11x14 print from Pamela B Photography. Raffle tickets, $5 each, can be purchased at the door and 100 percent of the proceeds will go to the family.

One week from today, the community will gather to support one of our own AND enjoy live entertainment from Gary Sinise & the Lt. Dan Band at the Sgt. Ben Tomlinson Benefit Concert at Jacksonville State University Stadium. Ben was injured in Afghanistan in 2010, and proceeds from the concert will benefit the construction of a “Smart Home” for him. Grab the family and come out for a great evening of fabulous music for a local hero. Visit www.operationben.com or call 1-800-293-5949 for tickets.
