TUSCALOOSA — Frank Brady nearly made a hole-in-one and teamed with Matt Rogers for four birdies in a bogey-free round of 67 that left them four shots off the lead after the first round of stroke play qualifying in the 31st State Four-Ball Championship at NorthRiver Yacht Club.

Brady almost made his ace on the par-3 12th. It was one of three birdies they made on the back nine.

The other local team in the field, Jeremy McGatha and Jaylon Ellison, shot 1-under-par 30. They had four birdies and three bogeys.

Teenagers Jake DeZoort and Tyler Hitchner shot 63 and hold a two-shot lead over three teams.
