Some say that jazz is nothing more than a lost art. At Anniston High School, it’s much more than that. Ruben Mitchell, band director at AHS, has gathered a group of students who share a passion for jazz, including Marcus Jones, Tyler Johnson, Paul Glover, Mondrell Macon, Gabriel Chapple, Jakira West and Myles Brown.

While the AHS marching band is one of the biggest in the county, some students play more contemporary instruments, such as the guitar or piano. What started out as a group playing a few pop hits has transformed into a band that plays the smooth rhythms of classic jazz.
