On the concluding day of play in the annual Red Wilder Invitational tennis tournament, Oxford captured the girls overall title and Faith Christian won the boys championship.

Wins in No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles play Saturday boosted Oxford to 46 points in the girls tournament. May Adams won at No. 4 for the Yellow Jackets, Peyton McGuirk at No. 5 and Savanna Adams at No. 6.

Second place went to Jacksonville with 35 points, led by Maria Trifas who won at No. 3 singles. Faith Christian was third on the girls side with 28 points. For the Lions, Sara Kathryn Searle won at No. 1 singles and Hallie Kulick claimed the No. 2 singles crown.

Faith Christian’s boys finished with 57 points and ran away from the rest of the four-team field. The Lions had four individual champions Saturday. Stephen Emerson won at No. 1 singles. Ryan Crosby was the winner at No. 2, Andrew Gattrell at No. 3 and David Wall at No. 5.

Jacksonville completed the tournament with 35 points, one more than Oxford, and finished second. Zach Casey won at No. 6 singles for the Golden Eagles. The No. 4 singles title went to Hunter Simpson of Oxford.

Donoho, 2012 champions for both girls and boys, did not participate this year when the tournament’s timing conflicted with the school’s intersession dates. Pleasant Valley’s first-year tennis teams played but did not score in girls or boys action.
