JACKSONVILLE — Spring Garden used the same gritty, defensive-minded style that's become its trademark to win in the Northeast Regional semifinals today.

Spring Garden's girls defeated Ragland 41-32 at Jacksonville State, earning a spot in Friday's finals for the 11th time in 12 years.

The Panthers forced 17 turnovers, limited Ragland to only 12 baskets and never led their foe get more than nine points in a quarter.

"It's not always perfect, and it's not always pretty. But it's use, and it's how we play," said Spring Garden coach Ricky Austin, whose team has won eight Northeast Regional championships in its history.

Darian Gaines had 11 points for Spring Garden (19-12), while Emory Reedy managed 10. Belle McKinney had 11 points for Ragland (23-8).

Spring Garden will play either Cedar Bluff or Skyline on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
