Ross Thrash honored at UDC meeting

Ross Thrash of Heflin was awarded a United Daughters of the Confederacy World War II Cross of Military Service by the Major General Patrick R. Cleburne UDC Chapter 2632. Jo Howard of Oxford and Lynda Lowery of Heflin conducted the ceremony Jan. 15 at Classic on Noble.

Thrash served as a sergeant during World War II, 512th Medical Collecting Company U.S. Army. His great-great-grandfather Reuben Adams served in Company E 29th Battalion, Georgia Cavalry, Confederate State of America.

Attendees at the ceremony included family members, Nell Thrash, wife; Donna Thrash Boman of Heflin, daughter; Vicki Thrash Gaines of Tuscaloosa, daughter and Mark Thrash of West Palm Beach, Fla., son.

Susie Stephenson, who plays southern music on the hammered dulcimer, entertained at the event.

Also at this chapter meeting, new members were welcomed and received UDC membership certificates. The new members included, Donna Dunn Riddle of Heflin; Holly Machen Park of Jacksonville and Sandra Cheatwood Trego of Oxford.
