Wadley escapes by two, one yard vs. Generals
NEW SITE — This 20-18 win wasn't by two, it was by one.
One yard.
The Bulldogs stopped Horseshoe Bend's Ethan Carroll at the one — after he gained 79 yards on the play — then put together two goal-line stands to hold off the Generals.
With just 1:28 left, Wadley led by two and had an 80-yard cushion to prevent a go-ahead against a team the Bulldogs have defeated nine consecutive times.
After two plays gained negaitve-10 yards for the Generals, Josh Price found Mandale Lee on the near sideline with a lateral. Lee then launched a deep pass to Carroll, who cradled the pass and ran toward the end zone and the win. But he fell just one yard short — a yard the Generals could not get past.
With only seconds remaining and no timeouts, Price attempted a quarterback sneak from the 1-yard line, but failed. He attempted again on second and goal and ultimately failed again.
Then the clock expired, giving Wadley the win and 10 wins in a row against their rival.
The Generals finished the game with 288 yards of total offense, while giving up 259 yards to Wadley.
Horseshoe Bend will be at home next Friday against Lineville, while Wadley travels to Verbena.
