Auburn may yet play in its first NCAA regional since 2010, but the Tigers didn’t help their cause in Hoover on Tuesday.
A 6-3 loss to Alabama in the single-elimination play-in round of SEC tournament blunted Auburn’s late-season surge and gave the Tigers and the NCAA selection committee six days to ponder them before Monday’s announcement of the field.
Mark Edwards' In My Opinion: Network good for SEC but not for us In recent weeks, we’ve heard plenty about the SEC television network, which is supposed to kick off next year.
We’ve heard all about how much more revenue it will generate for SEC schools. That’s wonderful … until we start thinking about who will pay that revenue. That’s right – you and me.
College football: Rimington watch list includes Tide, Tiger stars University of Alabama sophomore Ryan Kelly and Auburn junior Reese Dismukes are two of 44 players selected to the 2013 Rimington Trophy spring watch list.
The Rimington Committee announced the list Tuesday. The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the nation’s top center.
Basketball: Opponents set for Tide, Tigers in SEC/Big 12 Challenge Alabama will host Texas Tech, and Auburn will visit Iowa State in the Southeastern Conference/Big 12 basketball challenge next season.
The Crimson Tide will play in the inaugural game when it hosts Texas Tech at Coleman Coliseum on Nov. 14. Auburn will play at Iowa State on Dec. 2.
Auburn lands another top defensive prospect Multiple online reports say Auburn picked up its second top prospect of the week when Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College defensive back Derrick Moncrief announced Friday he has chosen the Tigers.
Mark Edwards' In My Opinion: Stoops takes on SEC, but numbers say he's wrong Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops questioned recently whether the Southeastern Conference really is the best football conference, basing much of his argument on the ability of the weakest teams.
Stoops says his own Big 12 Conference has better teams at the bottom. While Alabama coach Nick Saban told AL.com on Thursday night he has better things to do than worry about what Stoops is saying, I apparently don't. Especially when sitting through rain delays at high school softball regional tournaments.
Alexandria product paces Auburn win with big defensive plays Damek Tomscha hit an eighth-inning, game-winning home run, and Alexandria High graduate Hunter Kelley robbed Ole Miss of a pair of home runs as Auburn won its series over No. 18 Ole Miss with a 5-4 victory on Sunday.
TV partnership: It's not new, but none of the others had the SEC as a partner The SEC's network agreement with ESPN is not an innovative endeavor. Other conferences have realized moderate success (Pac-12) or abrupt shutdown (Mountain West), but the clearest example of a blockbuster is the Big Ten Network, off the ground in August 2007 and now in 52 million homes, including more than 50 percent outside the Big Ten’s nine-state region.
Malzahn defers starting quarterback decision with release of depth chart When Auburn head coach Gus Malzahn listed natural cornerback Joshua Holsey as his starting strong safety out of spring football practices, that was a surprise development.
When Malzahn refused to shed any light on who’s the king of the quarterbacks, that was not.
Junior Kiehl Frazier and sophomore Jonathan Wallace left April the same way they went in: listed on the same line, the dreaded “OR” designation on the Auburn depth chart released Wednesday afternoon.

Rams sign trio of former AU players Depending on who makes 53-man rosters, Sept. 26 and Dec. 1 will be two dates for Auburn fans to watch during the 2013 NFL season.
St. Louis, which hosts NFC West rival San Francisco on the former date, signed tight end Philip Lutzenkirchen, linebacker Daren Bates and wide receiver Emory Blake as free agents within 48 hours of the conclusion of last week’s NFL draft.
Any or all of those former Tigers could face their longtime teammate, defensive end Corey Lemonier, selected in the third round Friday by the 49ers. They will host the second matchup this fall.
Mark Edwards: College playoff won't solve all the arguing Going from two teams to four hardly will make all the issues go away. It’s kind of like divorce —we still will have problems to discuss and argue over, but they’re just new problems.
Letter by AU's Jacobs takes on Roberts report, says committee to review athletic department AUBURN – Patient and firm, Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs swore he would get to the bottom of an avalanche of allegations hurled at his football program earlier this month by a reporter using the backstory of a rogue former player.
An internal investigation lasting 19 days resulted in a hefty response by Jacobs and his team this morning, which attempts to dismantle reports by Roopstigo.com’s Selena Roberts with a nearly 1,000-word letter and official comment on 11 different allegations, including would-be NCAA violations.
Malzahn’s offense shines during Auburn’s A-Day Wanna see Gus Malzahn bristle? Call his system a spread offense.
Wanna see the head coach glow? Seven touchdowns spread out to seven different players in one half ought to light him up.
It’s only a simulation, but if Auburn’s new-look offense comes anywhere close to replicating A-Day’s effort this fall, the Tigers will enjoy a new day indeed.
Auburn honors four seniors for 2012 season AUBURN -- All five individual awards for Auburn's 2012 season were swept by four seniors who graduated last year.
Linebacker/safety Daren Bates was honored with both the Zeke Smith Award (defensive player of the year) and Mike Kolen Award as top tackler, amassing 94 stops last year. Bates was also Auburn's leading tackler in 2011.
Joe Medley: No shock that ‘nobody’ at Auburn distracted Here we are, in another cycle of hearsay and deciding what to believe regarding reports about Auburn football, but the new head coach gave us something to bank on Saturday.
Amid allegations, Malzahn wants focus on football Hitting the midway point of spring practices leading up to A-Day, it was clear which topic Auburn football coach Gus Malzahn preferred to discuss Saturday.
Malzahn was more interested in talking about an intrasquad scrimmage Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium than the recent reports and allegations swirling around the Auburn football program, much of which center around activity during his stint as the Tigers’ offensive coordinator from 2009-11.
AU reveals email exchange with Selena Roberts AUBURN – While Auburn instantly released a lengthy statement disputing ESPN The Magazine’s in-depth report on the football program’s “epidemic” of using synthetic marijuana, the university waited a day to comment on the Roopstigo.com narrative alleging NCAA violations for academic fraud and paying players.
Today, Auburn director of strategic communications Jack Smith produced an e-mail exchange with the Roopstigo report’s author, Selena Roberts, all within the past eight days.
Chizik: Report 'short on facts and logic' AUBURN – Joining the chorus of former Auburn figures slamming Selena Roberts’ long-form report accusing the football program of misdeeds and NCAA violations, ex-head coach Gene Chizik released a two-page statement Thursday via his representation in response to the allegations levied against him.
Here we go again, with piece alleging AU misdeeds Mouths hadn’t closed from the latest national story alleging wrongdoing in Auburn’s football program when quoted former players started condemning the piece.
Auburn's Jay Jacobs expresses sadness at Moore's death AUBURN -- Auburn athletics director Jay Jacobs expressed his sadness today at the passing of Mal Moore, who served as Alabama's athletics director during 1999-2013.
