Louisiana Sen. Mary Landrieu insisted the Medicaid boost worth $300 million to her state wasn’t the price of her vote. And, Sen. Ben Nelson’s personal stand against covering abortion with taxpayer money somehow translated into millions of dollars in federal aid for his home state of Nebraska. We’re to believe these were just coincidences? The bill still narrowly squeaked through on Christmas Eve, just before newly elected Republican congressmen could be seated in the House to block it.
Now we’re seeing the president’s staunchest supporters, the labor unions, are in revolt as they realize the president’s promise of them being able to “keep the health care plan you have if you like it” are merely empty words. To top it all off, the woman behind the Internal Revenue Service scandal, Lois “I take the Fifth” Lerner, is scheduled to head the IRS department that will administer the ACA, supposedly after she gets off her paid suspension.
What could possibly go wrong with that? This “signature piece of legislation” is set to be an albatross around the president’s neck.
