You don’t need an Englishman’s appreciation of the absurd to notice the irony of Rafael E. Cruz, commonly known as junior Sen. “Ted” Cruz of Texas, leading this Tea Party faction of the Republican Party as it puts a halt to the U.S. government, damaging our capitalism-based economy from within.
How laughably ironic it is that Cruz, Tea Party champion, probable presidential candidate and vociferous critic of everything associated with Obama, truly was born in a foreign country (Canada) to an American mother and Cuban father. As the story goes, they brought little Ted to the United States when he was around 4 years old.
Almost 50 years after Ted’s first coming to the United States to attend college, his father, also named Rafael, who, according to the senator, used Molotov cocktails against the Cuban government to help bring the socialist Fidel Castro to power, finally became a U.S. citizen in 2005, as his son’s political ambitions here grew.
Where are the conspiracy theorists now? It seems the irony here may be overshadowed by the hypocrisy.
