Some of the best news to come in a long time is that our (non) Rep. Richard Laird will not seek re-election when his term runs out. He may have been a good representative for Randolph County in the past, but lately he has not represented those who put him in office.

He has been in office for 36 years, and that is about 20 years longer than he, or any other elected official, should be in office.

As seen by his actions of late, those in office for this long lose sight of how they should act as representatives of the people in their home districts, and they begin to serve those who can do favors for them. They advance causes not in the best interest of the people they are supposed to represent and cause hardship to them in the process. I have lost the respect for Laird that I once had and so have many others after his actions of late.

The next best news we could get in Randolph County is that Gerald Dial has decided to get out of office and allow progress to again begin for the people and not those special interests with big pockets. Please, Lord, let it be.
