A Munford woman was in Calhoun County Jail Monday on charges that she had an active meth lab in the stolen vehicle she was driving on Dec. 28, according to court records that became available Monday.

April Cherie Hernandez, 31, of Munford, was charged with receiving stolen property, unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance and obstruction of justice, all felonies, according to Sheriff Larry Amerson and Matthew Wade, chief deputy with Sheriff’s Office.

According to Amerson, Hernandez was apprehended after a patrol deputy driving south on Alabama 21 in Oxford on Dec. 18 noticed the Toyota Corolla in front of him had no tag lights and was driving below the speed limit. He called dispatch to run the tag number on the vehicle and discovered the Heflin Police Department had reported the car as stolen.

Amerson said the deputy continued to follow the vehicle south, notified dispatch that he was leaving Calhoun County and asked them to notify the Talladega County Sheriff’s Office. Once another deputy arrived, the two pulled the vehicle over in Munford, Amerson said.

According to Wade, Hernandez gave a deputy a fake name and showed a deputy identification belonging to another person. Wade said a deputy also noticed components of what appeared to be an active meth lab in the vehicle. According to a warrant for Hernandez's arrest, drain cleaner, lye, lithium batteries, fertilizer, syringes and pseudoephedrine were found in the vehicle.

According to Wade, as she was being arrested, Hernandez gave the deputy her real name.

Hernandez remained in Calhoun County Jail on Monday with bond set at $10,000 according to jail records. She is to appear in court Feb. 3.

According to Wade and court records, Hernandez also has a warrant out for her arrest for failure to appear from Talladega County.
