Staff Sgt. Gary V. Harris, a 2004 graduate of Anniston High School, recently received the Samuel L. Sharpe medal. The ordnance order of Samuel Sharpe is to recognize those individuals who have served the U.S. Army Ordnance Corps with demonstrated integrity, moral character and professional competence over a sustained period of time. And whose selfless contributions to the Corps stand out in the eyes of their seniors, peers and subordinates alike.

Harris serves as the Motor Sergeant for Headquarters Support Company, Division Headquarters Battalion. He is responsible for planning, tracking and monitoring all maintenance of daily operations for more than 200 pieces of equipment. He provides technical guidance and assistance to 10 NCOs in the areas of managing and planning shop operations. He is responsible for maintaining and updating information for the Logistic Information warehouse and the Management Information system. Harris is the recipient of a Bronze Star and has served two combat tours to Iraq with more than 28 months at war.
