An Anniston man on Monday turned himself in for charges related to the theft of a refrigeration coil from a local grocery store, where he was formerly employed.

Ricky Nelson Bragg, 25, was charged with first-degree theft, a felony, according to a police report.

Anniston police Sgt. Chris Sparks told The Star last month that the theft was discovered when Bragg was pulled over on June 11 by a Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office deputy. Sparks said the deputy noticed the refrigerator coil in the back of the vehicle and discovered it was taken from Winn-Dixie on U.S. 431.

Sparks said Bragg intended to scrap the coil, which is worth $3,264, according to a police report.

Capt. Allen George said that though Bragg was not arrested during the June 11 traffic stop, a warrant was signed for his arrest on June 29. Bragg turned himself in at the Anniston Police Department Monday afternoon, George said.

Bragg was released on a $10,000 bond from the Anniston City Jail on Tuesday, the captain said.

A court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 5.
