A head-on collision in Coosa County Friday night killed one Heflin man, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Darren DeShawn McDaniel, 23, of Heflin, was driving his 2013 Toyota Corolla on U.S. 231 at 9:23 p.m. Friday when his car collided with a 2005 Dodge Caravan, said Robyn Litchfield, DPS spokeswoman. Litchfield said the wreck happened 1.5 miles north of Rockford.

The other driver, Claribel Yero, 49, of Sylacauga, was also killed. A spokeswoman from the Alabama State Trooper’s Office said Yero was travelling with three passengers, who were all injured in the crash. The spokeswoman was unsure what hospital the passengers were taken to or their current conditions.

The wreck is still under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
