Every year for 63 years, there has been a Calhoun County Tournament.

It's grown from its days at Saks Junior High to Jacksonville State's Stephenson Gym to Anniston High to JSU’s Pete Mathews Coliseum, and there has been a girls' bracket since 1979.

Somebody has to make sure 28 games over eight days go off without a hitch, and that job always falls to staff and volunteers for the host school. The job always seems to be done admirably.

This past week, the job was done admirably by the folks at Faith Christian

School. There didn’t seem to be any problems with the tournament going off as close to on schedule as play would allow. That’s because the Faith folks ran it well.

Coaches, administrators and reporters sure noticed how well the hospitality room was run, from the nightly buffets to the array of desert choices to the green-and-gold shakers on the tables.

The hospitality room folks didn’t seem to mind if a certain writer used a table as work space, nor did they ever run out of unsweet tea.

It all culminated with two happy Anniston teams partaking in victory chow Saturday night, so congrats and thanks to Faith head master Bob Phillips and his many helpers for a great tournament on and off the court.
